An organization of film professionals and amateur enthusiasts, the
International Cinerama Society is dedicated to the preservation of this
unique motion picture process and its films. A major element of United
States popular culture in the 1950s and early 1960s, Cinerama has virtually
vanished without a trace, unseen by the public in its original form for
almost thirty years.
Under the auspices of the ICS, Cinerama has been saved from extinction with
the opening of the Pictureville Cinerama Theatre and Museum at the National
Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford, West Yorkshire,
England.
Now, the ICS has the goal off creating a similar Cinerama Theatre and Museum
in the United States, where the process was invented. Philanthropic support
and a suitable museum venue to incorporate the theatre are currently being
sought. Through this act of historic preservation, new generations of
Americans could experience the wonder of Cinerama.
