Filming
of "Svalbard - Arctic Seasons"
By Thomas Hauerslev
We chose 65mm because the film is going
to be shown on a big curved screen, covering more than 100'
angle from the audiences point of view. No smaller format
could give the same feeling of being present in an arctic
environment. |

John
Steven Lashers' Kinopanorama
John Steven Lasher developed the idea for a short promotional travel-related
film about Australia, New South Wales and Sydney, host city of the 2000
Olympics, which would be shot in the three-strip Cinerama process, and
offered the film to Pictureville on an exclusive basis |
"Bounty"
credits
The 3-strip project has been retitled from "Ol' Three-Eyes is back"
to "H.M.A.V. Bounty".
Length of final film is estimated at 10 minutes actual footage, plus 3
minutes film prologue (centre panel only), film music overture (2'30"), end
credits (3') and exit music under one minute. Roughly 19 minutes of
Kinopanorama film. Screenplay is structured around a cruise aboard The Bounty. Additional
footage will be of Australian beaches, a cricket match between Australia and
England. |
Kinopanorama
Camera
Kinopanorama, the Russian system of panoramic cinematography, whereby
specially designed three-lens optics recreate the peripheral range of human
vision, was developed in the Soviet Union between 1956 and 1957 by
scientists at N.I.K.F.I. (All Union Scientific Research Institute of
Motion-Picture Photography) under the supervision of Evsei Mikhailovich
Goldovskii (1903-1971), the eminent Soviet scientist and inventor. |

Description
of Todd-AO Mark III Printer Principle
By Dr. Walter P. Siegmund
The problem of
obtaining any given overall frame keystone correction (K-correction) along
with any given droop while at the same time matching the "intrinsic" printer
keystone requires the control of several factors in the printing system. The
focal length of the printer lens and the bridge angle determine the
intrinsic keystone. The curvature of field of the printer lens and the
bridge angle determine the droop. |

How
Todd-AO Began
By Brian O'Brien, Jr.
My father was a college
professor, uninterested in show business, and had never
heard of Mike Todd, so when Mike called him late one night
saying he wanted a meeting, my dad was naturally cautious. |
Distortion
Correcting Printing Process
By Grant Lobban
The process was
originally designed to eliminate keystone distortion,
distortion resulting from using a deeply curved screen, plus
correcting the distortion arising from use of the extremely
wide-angle lenses |
