Weekend 1996
By Thomas Hauerslev
Bill Lawrence introduced the
show and told the story of how the staff had worked hard to make
this work. There was a big applaud for Tony and Duncan from the
audience, and Bill Lawrence continued: "Without the
International
Cinerama Rumour Factory this show
would never had taken place".
The Widescreen Weekend is a celebration of all that is extraordinary in large format film and
the audiences clearly prefer the curve to the flat screen.

Mission
Report from Widescreen Weekend 1996
By Thomas Hauerslev
Seeing old prints, faded clips, looking for join lines, the
smell of magnetic sound, hearing tape hiss, seeing
"Intermission" signs, is all part of the show in Bradford.
The week-end in Pictureville came to an end. I owe much
thanks to the staff there, especially Mr Bill Lawrence, Mr
Tony Cutts, Mr Duncan McGregor and Mr. Dick Vaughan for
making it unforgettable, highly interesting and for making
me feel so welcome.

Pictureville
Cinema, Bradford, England
By Thomas Hauerslev
In West Yorkshire, in the
heart of Britain, one of the worlds most advanced cinemas is situated. Capable of
presenting not only 35mm and 70mm, but also Cinerama.
It is the only public theatre
left in the world capable of showing original 3-strip Cinerama. |

Come
Back D-150 ....All Is Forgiven
By Grant Lobban
Known simply as D-150, it was the invention of two members of
the University of California, Dr Richard Vetter, and Carl W.
Williams. The system was a scaled-up version of an earlier
development of theirs for a driving simulator. |
General Building
Specifications for the Dimension-150 All-Purpose Theatre
The concept of the
"all-purpose-theatre" for Dimension 150 exhibition, and the
exhibition of all other existing screen processes has been studied by D-150,
Inc for several years. The "all-
purpose-theatre" should be unique in appearance, functional in design, and economical in construction,
operation and maintenance.

"ID4"
World Premiere of 70mm DTS at the Spektrum, Oslo, Norway
By Torkell Sätervadet
The Norwegian people are often said to be somewhat strange and crazy, and
"You are crazy!" was 20th Century Fox first response when they
were confronted with Oslo Municipal Cinemas' idea: to arrange a gigantic
screening of "ID4" on a 40 (forty) meter/131 feet screen
for an audience of 4500 spectators! The screen was to be installed at the
Oslo Spectrum - a large combined concert hall and indoor sports arena in
the very heart of Oslo, Norway. |
Johan Wolthuis Says Goodbye
By Thomas Hauerslev
In Amsterdam I saw Michael Todd's show "Around the World in
80 Days". From that time on I was convinced that 70mm
Todd-AO with 6 channel sound is the ultimate film
presentation format for the cinema. |
Doris Waller
By
Keith Swadkins
It is with great sadness that I must report
the passing, on August 10th 1996, of Mrs Doris Waller, widow of Fred Waller.
Those of us who came to know Doris in recent years will remember her as a
frail lady with an active mind a bubbling personality which belied her 89
years. |
