Dear Mr. 70mm,

Once again Mr CINERAMA can help you !!! Your unknown cinema is the FONIX in Kristiansand in Norway. I own a big report about the opening of this cinema on December 1st, 1966, in the professional monthly ZEISS IKON IMAGES ET SON (Pictures and sound) number 78/April 1968. The curved screen was a 19.50 m Perlux and projectors are FAVORIT 70.

I can send you copies of the report, with a short translation.

Regards.
Francois

A new cinema, the Fønix, opened 1st December 1966 in Kristiansand in Norway. This concrete building accommodate all cinema services and a 28m x 26m width theatre with 12m height. Volume is 6500 cubic meters and 793 seats. Projection room is 9.8m x 4.8m. The Perlux curved screen 19.5m x 8.8m has a 2.3m throw. Todd-AO projected frame is 18.2 x 8.5m.

Technical fitting includes:
- 2 FAVORIT 70 with XENOSOL III xenon bulb lamps
- 1 ERNEMANN VIIIB with XENOSOL I xenon bulb lamp
- 1 slides projector DIA-ERNEMAT
- a 6 channels sound system with 5 loudspeakers behind screen
- 16 surround loudspeakers
- loudspeakers in cinema lobby and special system for bad hearing people

In addition to projection room is an observation and control room and a prints storage room with elevator. All electric wiring system is fixed on the front wall with removable panels to make modifications easier. Projected frame bottom is still one meter over stage floor, for all film formats. Projectors must be tilted with hydraulic jacks. Screen dimensions can be ajusted by buttons in projection room.

Cinema owner is delighted about this kinematography installation, due to our representatives in Oslo, J.L. Nerlien A/S.
