I run 70mm for the simple reason I think it is a fabulous format

You can't keep a man down who want to show 7OMM! That statement seems to be true with Orla Nielsen from Aalborg in Denmark. Some readers are probably familiar with Orla, when he was the manager of Biffen in Aalborg, an art house cinema he founded in 1989.

Orla and Biffen went separate ways in 2014, and 7OMM in Aalborg became homeless. Now he is back with a vengance, when he and Theater Nordkraft (located only a few meters away from Biffen), opens a temporary cinema to show Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" in blazing Ultra Panavision 70.

Orla has been associated with Danish cinema and 7OMM for more than 30 years, and has been a fine advocate for curved screens and quality in projection. He has brought 7OMM around Denmark, in Odense, Copenhagen, Rungsted and Helsingør, with some memorable 7OMM shows of "Baraka", "Out of Africa" and ”Hamlet” and not least a 1-day 7OMM Event in 2014. And now the latest 7OMM extravaganza will be offered to the citizens of Aalborg.

When Orla saw "The Hateful Eight" he said, "I have seen "The Hateful Eight" a couple of times in the digital version, but when I saw it in 7OMM, I thought, WOW! This is the way it should be seen". Orla tried to convince the local multiplex to set up 7OMM screenings earlier this year by offering them his own projection equipment. But they declined his offer. Instead, Theatre Nordkraft's manager Jakob Jørgensen came to the rescue and offered his theatre to Orla for a limited season.

"Why not show it at my theatre?" - Jakob asked.

"Of course - I'd be thrilled", said Orla.

A unique experience awaits the audience, who missed this film at its initial regular DCP release in Aalborg earlier this year. This time, the audience can marvel at the sharp pictures in large format with all it's depth and clarity as the director intended. Only 7 performances, and then it's all over.

True to the format, it is a road show engagement in 7OMM, the Rolls-Royce of film formats, complete with a Overture, Intermission, reprinted souvenir program and an extended running time. The Running time of the 7OMM Road Show version is 3 hours, 7 minutes (187 mins) with 3 min 48 sec overture, including 12 min intermission, compared to the wide release version of "only" 2 hours 47 minutes.

All 10 reels of 7OMM film are shown with a historically correct Philips DP70 Todd-AO projector, fitted with a vintage anamorphic Ultra Panavision projection lens and a re-built Kinoton ST200 non-rewind table. The flat screen is a matt white Harkness, approximately 10 meter x 3,8 meter.

Theatre Nordkraft opens Monday 9. May, 2016 and runs every evening at 19:00 until, and including, Saturday 14. May 2016. The temporary cinema have 146 seats. On Saturday 7. May, local newspaper "Nordjyske" published a huge 2-page article about Orla and his passion for 7OMM and at the time of writing this, Orla and the staff of Theatre Nordkraft are very busy with the last preparations, until the big premiere Monday evening, for an invited audience.
