In the South Yorkshire Town of Barnsley was history in the making with the UK’s third venue to screen the 70mm Roadshow “The Hateful Eight”.

For those who have never been or heard of Barnsley, it is once known for the Coal Mining and Glass Making and Brass Bands and now 70mm at the former Odeon Cinema now called The Parkway Cinema.

The Cinema upgrade to 70mm was proudly carried out in house by Rob Younger Director/Technical Manager/Projectionist at the Parkway Cinema who sourced a Cinemaccacia RK60 (Victoria 8 35mm only) Projector and modified to full 70mm and also installed DTS and future provision for 70mm Mag sound.

The screen modifications to the masking was made over 3 days to get the correct Ultra-Panavison 70mm ratio and a great deal of hard work behind the scenes were made to open in time.

So on the Friday 8th of April “The Hateful Eight” opened in 70mm the first time in Barnsley Cinema history that 70mm been screened in the town and due to the interest shown, extra showings were added for a extra week.

This is the third venue your correspondent has visited to see “The Hateful Eight” UK 70mm Roadshow and was impressed!

The screening was personally presented by Rob Younger who appeared through the coloured lit cinema curtains after a Cinerama trailer in Digital, who proudly announced that this is the first 70mm to play in Barnsley.

Some people had travelled from far and wide to visit the Parkway Cinema to see the 70mm UK Roadshow of “The Hateful Eight” and now Barnsley can join the exclusive list of London, Edinburgh, Dublin for 70mm screenings.
