and eight "Tenet" 70mm cans from FotoKem Lab.
After
six months of movie theatres closure (in Italy cinemas in Lombardy region
have been closed since the end February), everybody who loves the theatrical
experience on a big screen was indeed looking forward for the release of
"Tenet". The fact that the movie was entirely shot in large format 65MM made
this waiting even more exciting for all of us. Energy PLF Theatre in
Arcadia Cinema
in Melzo (Milan) and Cineteca di Bologna (screening room of Bologna Film
Archive) are the only two locations in Italy where the movie is being
presented in 70MM film. Energy PLF Theatre has a huge 30 metres wide screen
and the biggest configuration in the world of Dolby Atmos™-
Meyer Sound.
ARCADIA Cinema had reopened a week earlier "Tenet"’s release, on Wednesday
August 19th, with the screenings of "“Inception" 10th Anniversary” (including
10 minutes behind the scenes footage on the making of "Tenet", great content)
and with special projections in 70MM of Kubrick’s
“2001 A Space Odyssey” and
Nolan’s "Interstellar", just to warm up its raving fans patrons, in
anticipation on "Tenet"’s release on August 26th. I’ve seen “Interstellar”
during the weekend. It was projected with the
Philips DP70 (in Energy
theatre’s booth there are 2 Film projectors, one Cinemeccanica Victoria 8
and one Philips DP70, alongside 2 Digital Projectors Christie 4K in-stack
with laser source light). The 70MM screening of “Interstellar” was
outstanding, clear and steady as a rock.
On another platter, under “Interstellar” print, I could see a 70MM print of
“Dances with Wolves” that theatre owner Piero Fumagalli watched by himself
during lockdown weeks (…lucky guy). I went to ARCADIA to see "Tenet" in 70MM
last week and thanks to Laura I was able to visit the booth with the 70MM
print ready on the platter to be projected with Cinemeccanica Victoria 8
projector. A 40 years veteran of 70MM Film presentations himself, it
could be no one else that theatre owner himself Piero Fumagalli to
personally project each and every 70MM screening of "Tenet" on huge Energy
screen. Laura has kindly shown me the eight cans that they had
received from FotoKem Lab in Los Angeles (seven for the film reels and one
for the DATASAT disks).

The
massive 30 meter screen. ENERGY PLF theatre has the biggest per screen box
office/attendances opening result in all of Italy.
"Tenet"
is being projected in 70MM in ARCADIA with the majority of showtimes in
Italian Dubbed Version but there are also some showtimes in Original Version
with Italian Subtitles. It will run on Energy screen all throughout
September, for sure.
The 70MM print looked perfect as well as the projection. A jaw dropping
experience, same consistent top level quality that is the standard for
ARCADIA since it’s opening 23 years ago. The film’s sound was outstanding on
the Meyer Sound system…it increased the power of Hoyte van Hoytema’ s
gorgeous Cinematography. "Tenet" is not an easy movie, I think that only the
most devoted fans of Christopher Nolan cannot be lost inside the cryptic
script, the overwhelming scenes and chaotic ending in which with all these
masked guys you don’t really understand who is who and who does what? But
looking at the overall vision of "Tenet" I guess that was exactly Mr Nolan’s
goal.
I was informed from Laura that ENERGY PLF theatre has the biggest per screen
box office/attendances opening result in all of Italy. I am sure that for
them, after so many months of closure, being able to welcome back so many
patrons is a pure joy for the eyes and mostly the spirit. "Tenet" is a Great
Movie, the perfect film to allow the cinema industry a new great re-start.
It’s Great Cinema experience fully to be appreciated just on the Biggest
Screen/Sound system possible. I am so much Looking forward to my second
"Tenet" 70MM screening in ARCADIA.
