The
Grand Rex in Paris all dressed up for the magnificent premiere of Quentin
Tarantino's new flick "The Hateful Eight" in glorious Ultra Panavision 70
Following the European premiere at the
Odeon Leicester Square in London, Thursday 10. December, the "The Hateful Eight" Road-Show moved to continental
Europe, to open to a sold out house at the largest cinema in Europe: The
Grand Rex in Paris.
I had the opportunity to talk to Stéphane LANDFRIED (Fédération
Nationale des Cinémas Français) about this spectacular premiere.
In70mm.com: How did it go at the Grand Rex last night?
Stéphane LANDFRIED: It was huge !!!! Overture on the curtain
with lower and lower lights, 12 minutes of intermission, music to start the
second part and theater bell in the lobby. The projection was incredible.
They didn't use the anamorphic optical furbished by the Weinsteins but an
anamorphic lens from a digital projector. The result was totally perfect.
The print is totally incredible in quality!
in70mm.com: How many people attended, 1500?
Stéphane LANDFRIED: More than that. The total capacity is 2,750
but 250 seats are closed due to the temporarily 70mm booth at the mezzanine.
So they were 2,500.

Quentin
Tarantino was in the 70mm booth of The Grand Rex Friday, 11. December 2015 with the two French technicians who made this possible with the distributor
(SND): Alain Surmulet at the center and Jean-Baptiste Hennion at right.
The picture was taken by Richard Patry (President of the French National
Association of Theaters Owners and President of NOE Cinémas and exhibitor in
Normandy including Grand
Mercure, Elbeuf). A huge fan of 70mm like me!
