About "Zoot Suit"
The last film in 70mm and Sensurround Plus

The last Sensurround film. Photographed by Brad Adams in the fall of 1981.

I thought the movie was filmed well and there sure was some jazzy numbers, but as far as the Sunsurround, I felt heavy deep bass during most of the musical numbers, thus, the "+ Plus" in Sunsurround. It just 'enhanced' the music (And with it being a filmed play I wasn't expecting much in the way of effects). I didn't feel any of the vibration like in "Rollercoaster" or "Earthquake".

I think they had hung the rear speakers for the Sensurround. I remember not seeing them in the back of the theatre like "Equake" / "Rcoaster". But I did notice they had (The Dome) extra sound equipment hanging in the back, I thought it was hung so the back row is not right in front of the speakers.

"Zoot Suit" advert from in70mm.com's collection

Today most people have bigger bass systems in their cars. I saw the next movie to play after "Zoot Suit" and the hanging speakers in the back were removed.

I saw "Rcoaster" in Sensurround in Kalamazoo, MI when I was 15, (not in 70MM here). The back row boxes were about 6ft. tall, I remember they were taller than I, and what an experience !! Some of the time it felt like my chest was caving in. Totally different from "Rcoaster" to "Zoot Suit"..........

Thanks, Brad Adams

"Zoot Suit" is not included in Sensurround festival 2010

The Cinerama Dome fall 1981. Photographed by Brad Adams.

"Zoot Suit"
will not be included in the Schauburg Sensurround Festival 5-6 June, 2010 because it was never a real Sensurround movie.

It did not use the horns. "Zoot Suit" simply used the DBX circuits implemented in the Sensurround control units from revision 3 on. No real Sensurround, just DBX noise reduction and the decision to advertise it as "SENSURROUND Plus" was wrong, and it bombed. It will never sell a ticket in a real Sensurround festival, where audience expects to experience the real and not fake marketing attempts. ...
