Book signing at the Cinématheque Française in Paris

During the first day of the 70mm Retrospective in Paris, on Friday June 13, around 16.00 hours, Johan Wolthuis from The Netherlands, will do a book signing session with his latest publication "Widescreen History". It will all happen after the lecture (in French) of Jean Pierre Verscheure from Brussels “Une Histoire du Format 70mm” which takes place at the auditorium Salle Henri Langlois of the Paris Cinema Museum. It takes place in the beautiful building by architect Frank Gehry at the Parc de Bercy near the river Seine (Metro Bercy), where the Cinématheque has its domain with a museum, expositions, library, bookshop, children workshop area's and of course two new cinema auditoriums, the largest with original 70mm DP70 projectors! Here the real cinema history survives.

In the evening Johan will be present before 8 o'clock at the screening of “La Tour du Monde en 80 Jours” (original version with French subtitles) with his large Archive books from Around the World in 80 Days and Oklahoma! which contain a lot of original advertisements and articles from magazines, etc. from the fifties. After the opening night of the 70mm Retrospective, a lot of original 70mm films will be presented from June 13 – June 30 at the auditorium of the museum all in their original version. The Museum of the Cinématheque Française is open Sundays from 10-20 h, the other days from 12-19 h. Closed on Tuesdays.

70mm Retrospective in Paris 13-30 June 2014
Translated by Johan Wolthuis

After the conference for the conservation of the 70mm processes, the Cinématheque Française in Paris presents eleven films representative for the production of the prestigious 70mm format. From Around the World in 80 Days, produced in 1956, the fifties being the golden age of 70mm production, till "The Master", produced in 2012. In between, a panorama of all kind of genres: musicals like Sound of Music and Hello Dolly!, the war epic Patton, epic stories like Lord Jim and Khartoum, a painter's biography from East Germany GOYA … and the technical processes mostly from America and Russia who gave the directors the possibilities for the creation of films of great value while using the technical skills to realize their great ambitions.
