I
just saw your new article on The
Rivoli Murals, New York. Wonderful artworks!
I need some help regarding a DP70 projector. Do you have an English language
version of the Installation and Operation manual for the EL 4000/4001
machines? I have downloaded the AAII manual from Film-Tech, but although it
is helpful, it is incomplete. I hope to find a good copy. These particular
machines have serial numbers in the 2000 series, so I assume they would be
the improved version of the projector. I would be grateful if you can direct
me towards a good copy or pdf of the manuals.
Also. Some sad news to report. DP70 projectors #1779 and #2306 are reported
to have been destroyed in storage during the Brisbane floods of 2011.

DP70s in Australia. The 70mm projectors at
Horsham, Victoria are not DP70. They are Cinemeccanica Victoria X. They were
originally installed new in the Chelsea Theatre, Melbourne, then moved a
little way down the street to the Forum Twin Cinemas (Cinema One) also in
Melbourne, and screened a lot of 70mm on both sites. When the Forum Twin
closed in 1982 or 1983 the Victoria X machines were sold to Horsham.
Charlton, Victoria, is a small town quite a long distance North-West of
Melbourne. The Rex Theatre actually has two DP-70 projectors, #893 and #895 as noted elsewhere on the page. They have recently been re-installed in
the projection room, after it was enlarged for upgrade to DCP projection. I
was fortunate enough to operate them some years ago.

DP70
projectors as first installed at Charlton. Photo by Jenny Pollard
I have attached a photo of the DP70 projectors as first installed at
Charlton. The photo is from the theatre website, and copied without their
permission. If you check with them, I am sure they would be pleased to see
it published on your site.
I have some photos of my own, taken when they were newly installed, but it
might take quite some time to get hold of the negatives.
The site includes a number of documents relating to its history and
technical specifications. One of them states that the DP70 were originally
installed in Hoyts Esquire theatre, Melbourne, which contradicts my
understanding.
