Kevin Coyne, One of the programmers at the IFI,  gave a brief tribute to Brian as a former projectionist, staffer and champion of 70mm.

The Irish Film Institute paid warm tribute to Brian Guckian who was well known as a leading champion of 70mm film and worked as a projectionist there. The screening of "Le Mans", dedicated to his memory, was well attended by members of the Institute and visitors far and wide. The screening took place on November 30th in Cinema 1 which has a seating capacity of 258 of which 75% was occupied. The audience in total, numbered over 200.

The U.K. Delegates were Ben Wales with this writer and his wife Margaret. We had flown for the occasion. We were all staying at the same hotel and travelled to the Institute together. Having been suitably refreshed in a nearby pub, we found the Institute after a careful search of the Temple Bar district, one of the most beautifully preserved eighteenth century quarters in the world.

After the screening, we held a "wake" in old Irish tradition with Nisan Greenige, the Head of Film at the Institute. We were later given a tour of the all important projection room, which enjoys facilities that are second to none. Dubliners are fortunate to have such a great institution dedicated to Film in the heart of their great city. 70mm film has lasted the course. Brian played his part in bringing this about. Long may his memory and legacy endure.
