Written by: Randy Gitsch, Cinerama Restoration Crew Date: 06.01.2018
BURBANK: Cinerama Inc. has announced that the Cinerama Restoration Crew has been newly booked to screen a variety of 3-panel Cinerama process triptych motion pictures from its unique legacy film library at upcoming retrospective film events at home in the U.S. and across Europe.

The Cinerama Restoration Crew of Chief Restorationist Dave Strohmaier, and Producer, Randy Gitsch, who together have overseen the digital re-mastering, and recombination of these pictures, will accompany a variety of titles overseas, and will again present a historical back-story and restoration demonstration accompanying each screening.

Primary among these upcoming screenings will be the latest digital versions of both “This is Cinerama” (1952) and  “Windjammer: The Voyage of the Christian Radich” (1958), for which the team had recently been refunded to access better original camera elements so as to surpass their previous work.

Commencing on Jan 21, the team will screen both these new versions in New York City at the Museum of Modern Art, as a part of their To Save and Project film series.

Additional engagements have now been scheduled for the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, on Mar. 1-4, followed by a similar multi-day event at the Cinematheque Francaise in Paris, for their Toute la Memoire du Monde program on Mar. 7-9.

NEW: Additional engagements have now been scheduled for the Cinematek in Copenhagen (Denmark) May 24., 25. and 26.

A stand-alone screening of “Windjammer” is slated for the Colosseum Kino, in Oslo, on May 27. The Colosseum is the largest theater in Norway and the venue where the Norwegian-American co-production originally premiered.

• Go to screening dates for alle CINERAMA engagements

All films have additionally been letterboxed in Strohmaier’s trademarked
Smilebox®, to simulate the curved screen viewing experience of the original theatrical presentations.
