In the fall of 2012, we held the sixtieth anniversary celebration of Cinerama at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood where all the classic Cinerama films were screened on the giant ninety foot curved screen. Cinerama fans came from all over the United States as well as from all over the world. It truly was a once in a lifetime event seeing these films again the way they were meant to be seen.

Several months before, one of the old Cinerama cameras was refurbished and we actually filmed a short subject in the old process. It was created in the style of one of the more popular travel films entitled
"Cinerama Holiday" (1953) as well as a tip of the hat to "Windjammer" (1958). Both films were major box office hits of their day. Our new production features lots of local LA scenery and Cinerama POV shots, along with some film history and Cinerama references, all flavored with a bit of consciously dated dialogue.

"In the Picture" (2012) premiered at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood on Cinerama’s sixtieth anniversary, the first new Cinerama film in 50 years.

"In the Picture": Filming Completed

In The Picture - Tom Down Under

In the following year, Image Trends Inc. of Austin Texas had completed the digital scanning for all the Cinerama travelogue features and took on their last Cinerama project, “IN THE PICTURE”. The digital scanning is complete and it has been about two years since it was filmed, so now that we have the HD digital version of the film, it’s about time for a wrap party.

The BBQ and movie screening were a great success and a good time was had by everyone.

Now that “IN THE PICTURE” is also in a digital version, it will be included as an extra along with the documentary “THE LAST DAYS OF CINERAMA” in the upcoming Flicker Alley Blu-ray/DVD release of “SEARCH FOR PARADISE”.

Copies of the original 3-panel film version of “IN THE PICTURE” are also retained for screening in Hollywood at Pacific Theatres, at the National Media Museum in Bradford, UK and with John H. Mitchell in Sydney, Australia.
