One
of the most unique and rarely seen Todd-AO films ever produced, was a 28 minute film
filmed in 1963 to be shown exclusively at the Billy Graham Pavilion at the
1964-65 Worlds Fair in New York, USA. The film was shown 10 times a day in a
purpose built 400 seat theatre. The film was seen by more than 1 million
spectators and has since completely disappeared in it's original Todd-AO
version.
In January 2005 I discovered a superbly well documented story Mr. Eric
Paddon about "Man in the 5th Dimension"
and the Billy Graham Pavilion in which the film was
shown. Eric Paddon documents the participation of the
Billy Graham Evangelistic Association at the New York World's Fair and with
his kind permission, I have reprinted his article and
information about the Todd-AO film from the souvenir program and soundtrack. For a complete coverage of
Todd-AO in a religious context, I recommend the 1964 worlds fair
nywf64.com web
site and
especially the coverage of the
Billy
Graham Pavilion.

About the author
Eric Paddon

Eric Paddon teaches American and World History at
County College Of Morris, New Jersey and has also taught History at Wheaton (IL)
College where the
papers of Dr. Billy Graham are kept. His dissertation on
Dr. Graham's friendships with U.S. presidents will soon be published as a
book. He grew up in Chatham, NJ and remembers his first view of the
World's Fair site in the mid-1980s en route to a Mets game and being drawn
to the sight of the eternally stopped Sky-Streak elevator in the New York
State Pavilion.

It's difficult to
find the words to thank Eric enough for all of the work he put
into this Feature. His research into the Billy Graham
Evangelistic Association archives at Wheaton College presents a
unique insight into how the Billy Graham Pavilion came to be at
the Fair and reminds us of the importance of religion even as
the Space Age was in full swing. Without his efforts, the Graham
Pavilion Feature would not have been nearly so interesting and
thorough.
Thank you, Eric!

Hi Thomas, and thank you for your e-mail. I'm glad you think my article can be helpful for your site, and it's okay to run whatever excerpts you need to do so long as your site whenever quoting puts an acknowledgment of reprinted with permission and also offers a link to the site itself for more info about the New York World's Fair. I'll be interested in seeing what your site ultimately looks like!
Sincerely,
Eric Paddon,
