We
are almost done with the 2K "The Golden Head" remastering and it
looks pretty darn good. The original negatives were a mixture of
Technirama (35mm
8 perf with an anamorphic and
MCS
70mm or 65mm negatives).

Quite
unusual mixture of negative elements. The Technirama negative was cut in the
auto-select format so that meant every dissolve has to be re-created for the
final 2K master, but the dissolves have a first generation look to them
because of this. Sound is great as well.

70mm
print - Before
We were surprised that there was not some kind of a 65mm negative created
out of the Technirama footage before printing in 70mm. All our elements are
o-negs and cut auto-select which is difficult to sync up the sound (all had
to be "lip synced") and every dissolve re created.

Telecine
from Technirama 35mm 0-negs and color work now looks like this - After
We did find YCMs in 65mm of everything but then you can't telecine it and we
did not have the budget for scanning. The Tecnirama negs were most of the
show so we used that as our guide for the aspect ratio of the overall show.
There were strange reflections at the top of each Technirama shot from a
matte box or something so we used that as our guide for cropping the top of
the frame.

This title looks great -crystal clear and sharp and has all the color still
there not blotching. We found this negative was cut for the auto select
system used at Technicolor, where there are black slugs in each roll at the
point where dissolved are. We can work around this and re create each
dissolve on the computer.
Sound is already preserved on a DA-88 tape.
