Enthusiast Mr. Ramon Lamarca in Bradford 2003.
Spoiler warning. The first section of this interview gives away
information of the film “Fanny’s Wedding”. All films should be seen
with little information about them as to keep an open mind and the
surprise element. If you have not seen the film, we suggest you go to
Section II to read about Mr Brunet’s thoughts on 70mm and widescreen
cinema.

Introduction
|
|
After my first year attending the Widescreen Weekend in Bradford, I decided
to try and help this fantastic festival by doing some research on the
Internet. From the numerous emails I sent, one of the most rewarding
findings was to meet (on line only!) Mr Olivier Brunet. I got to know that
he had directed a short film partially shot in 70mm, called “Fanny’s
Wedding”. I proposed to screen this short to Bill Lawrence, who agreed
to include it in the festival.
I thought Mr Brunet would come to the Widescreen Weekend to introduce the
short himself. Unfortunately he could not make it in the end and so, I gave
a little improvised introduction.
After seeing the short, I thought it would be an interesting idea to
interview Mr Brunet for Thomas’s website. Thomas thought it would be a good
idea as well. Mr Brunet was enthusiastic from the beginning and so this
interview started nearly a year ago! Different time constrains have delayed
it until now.
Before starting the interview Mr Brunet wanted to know my sincere opinion of
his film. I told him that having introduced his film to the audience added a
bit of responsibility and I was not able to be that anonymous member of the
audience anymore since I had the usual thoughts (i.e. Is the audience going
to like it?). It was nice to see that many people were very pleased with
“Fanny’s Wedding”.
So, this is the interview, which emphasises on “Fanny’s Wedding” but
also comprises thoughts on 70mm films and other widescreen processes. As I
said, it starts with my sincere opinion on “Fanny’s Wedding”.
