 The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter
presentations of “Highlander” in the United States and Canada.The Thorn EMI Screen Entertainment presentation and 20th Century Fox release — directed by Russell Mulcahy (“Razorback,” “Highlander II: The Quickening”) and starring Christopher Lambert, Roxanne Hart, Clancy Brown and Sean Connery — opened March 7th, 1986. The 70mm prints of “Highlander” featured Six-Track Dolby Stereo (“A”-encoded Baby Boom format*) and full-frame imagery blown up from spherical 35mm. *The film cans of one known print are believed to have been mislabeled as Format 43 i.e. Baby Boom format with a Split Surround option. Opening/screening date … locale — cinema (duration in weeks) [notes] PART 1: FILM FESTIVALS No evidence could be found confirming any North American film festival screenings of the 70mm print. (There was at least one 70mm print struck for this purpose while a distributor was being sought. Some international 70mm screenings have been confirmed.) PART 2: FIRST RUN No evidence could be found confirming any first run 70mm presentations of “Highlander” in the United States or Canada. (The title is listed in Dolby Labs’ master records as a 70mm release.)
