The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter
re-release engagements of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” in the United States
and Canada.
The MGM release was directed by Stanley Donen (“Lucky Lady,” “Saturn 3”) and
starred Jane Powell and Howard Keel. “Seven Brides” originally was released in
1954 in 35mm CinemaScope and four-track magnetic stereo. The 70mm six-track
blow-up re-issue in 1968, inspired by the successful 70mm “Gone with the Wind”
re-issue, was initially intended for international territories and by 1971
print(s) turned up for domestic bookings.
