An original D-150 theatre around which 4 smaller auditoriums
have been added. A photo can be seen at www.film-tech.com.
Both Norelcos removed 2001 (sitting away from ports for
removal) from service completely. No lamphouses installed.
Awaiting removal from building altogether.

On January 21 2013, two AAII's were taken from the Regal
Continental 10 theater in Denver, CO (2311+2312) and brought
to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences. Only the
projector heads were saved. The bases and upper reel arms
were scrapped. As in previous cases, these will either be
used for parts, or put onto other bases for use in upcoming
installations. Both machines were in good shape, with only
the shutter missing from 2311. Happy to have found another
new serial number! And to have rescued two more machines
from being trashed.

Denham (*) / Ben Hur Theatre
(*) |
|
Two DP70. Face
lifted for 250.000 dollars in late 1960 under supervision of
architect Richard Crowther. Reopened with "Ben Hur".
Seats reduced from 1585 to 810. New Walker screen 54 x 25
ft.
"Oklahoma!"
opened in Denver mid October 1956. Theatre unknown.
The reference to the "Ben Hur" Theatre in Denver, Colorado, with 70mm projectors, this theatre was actually called the Denham. When "Ben Hur" was
playing there, they took down the Denham marquee sign and replaced it with a "Ben Hur" sign. Since the film played there for some time, the sign was left
in place, however if memory serves at the end of the run, the original name Denham was again restored on the building. Quite a few of the first run musicals played at the Denham and it was one of the better examples of a period art deco theatre as I recall. I believe the original building was torn down to make way for one of the local hotels or multi-story office buildings, but it was located near the downtown area around 18th and Broadway or somewhere in that vicinity. Probably the Colorado Historical Society would have more accurate information on the location and history of the building. Bob Amick, 29.09.2006 |
