Two DP70 (2098+2100)
with the base numbers 6377 and 6418. Machines coming from
Detroit United Artists. They were removed from Summit
Theatre Detroit (built 1927 as the Cass) to the Redford. I
am not sure if they are the UA machines or not.

Motor City Cinema Society: Boogie Nights in 70mm at the
Redford Theater
At the Redford we once speeded a projector up to 30 fps and
played a reel of a very pink "Oklahoma!" with the
corresponding Cinemascope reel in the other projector. It
was interesting switching back and forth to see how much
better the cinematography was in the CinemaScope 35mm
version. Sound was unbelievably good on the 70mm print. Like
"The Robe" there were a number of incidental
differences between the two. Also the 35mm flat version of
"The Robe" was better viewing than the CinemaScope
version. There must have been a committee on both sets
repeating "be very careful of the new equipment", and once
the first take was done they ignored the second crew, who
made use of more and better setups without extra panic
supervision over their shoulders.

During
"Around the World in 80 Days", 1957
The United
Artists closed in 1971 and the Summit got 70mm in 1965. I am
theorizing it is a different pair of projectors.
