In
70mm at the Royal theater in Malmö on March 16 at 2pm. The Royal might be
the theater with the largest and also curved screen, 20 x 8,3m, in Europe
that can show films in 70mm. The Royal is unique.

"Projectionist"
Sebastian (Fredrik Badtoffla taking the picture), is changing a reel on the magnificent DP70 projector.
Although the Royal is a fully state of the art 4K digital cinema, the
management have kept their OSCAR winning DP70 Todd-AO machines for events
like this.
The DP70 have been carefully massaged for this show by the staff, who are
all looking forward to "wave the 70mm flag" in Skåne.

Being
a projectionist is a job who requires skilled hands to project films,
especially 70mm - the deLuxe format of the cinema.
|
|
A
rare view through a DP70 masking plate - in the box is the projection lens
from 1961, and ISCO T-Kiptagon - a SERIOUS piece of glass and tailor made
for Royal's curved screen.
|
|
The
five transportation cases of 70mm film - this is heavy duty cases, and
requires a healthy amount of muscle to carry to the projection room.
Unlike a 1 TB harddisk, which you can have in your pocket, this is 150 kilos of
iron requires large "gladiators" of projectionists - all oiled up for 70mm
combat.
