What
is it and what is its purpose?
IMIS (formerly BKSTS), based at the world famous Pinewood Studios, is an
international network for professionals working in any specialism within the
moving image industries, and at any stage of their careers. The Society
encompasses the whole breadth of these industries – acting, script writing,
production, post-production, cinema, television, sound, animation, vfx,

The driving principle and mission of IMIS, is encouraging moving image
professionals to be better at what they do by learning about the work and
industry developments of other professional specialisms within the moving
image industries. As well as getting more knowledge about their own
disciplines.
By facilitating professionals to network across areas of expertise, IMIS has
promoted synergy, better employability and increasing knowledge and skills
for its members. IMIS promotes gaining a much better understanding of “the
bigger picture” of the moving image industries for its members.
How long has it been in operation?
Formed in 1931, IMIS has had a very illustrious history with former patrons
including the late Duke of Edinburgh and former in70mm.com avid supporter,
film industry legend, the late
Sir Sydney Samuelson. IMIS has in the past
made a major contribution in fuelling the rise of the moving image, in all
its disciplines, across the world. It has a fascinating history which can be
explored in this highly illustrated article.
The Society is in the process of
re-activating after a quiet dormant period
of three years.
Who can join IMIS?

these industries but can corroborate an association / interest / enthusiasm
/ commitment to the moving image industries, through brief correspondence
with the Membership Secretary, are warmly invited to apply.
