Sepia Records and I have started the editing process for a CD release of "The Best Of Cinerama." With the significant contributions of Dave Strohmaier and John Sitig the surving 35mm tracks have been found. What makes this different than the other Sepia Cinerama CD's is that the source elements are 35mm 7-track full coats of the production. The full coats are a mixture of the only surviving Cinerama 7-track audio of Act I, with narration and Act II, the music and effects without narration. The CD multi track mix will be mastered in Dolby Surround Prologic to help preserve the surround sound experience of Cinerama. Also, because the 35mm tracks are the second generation dubs running at the Cinerama speed the sound quality is outstanding. This CD will be produced with limited narration by Lowell Thomas and will be included in certain sections as a tour guide of the "The Best Of Cinerama." Extras will include the "This Is Cinerama" stereophonic orchestral demonstration from the original master recording without narration, first generation 7-tracks of the music for "flying over America" and some short music bridges. We hope to have the CD package released the spring of 2015 and I believe this will be the last Cinerama CD project in the Sepia series and will be a great collectors item considering the concept of "The Best Of Cinerama" as the last in the series of travel-experience 3-pannel films in the revolutionary seven channel stereophonic sound system created by Hazard Reeves.

September 2015 Update:

We in this fast moving world of "digital" I got bit (no pun intended.) Since "Best Of Cinerama" never had, as we thought "exit music" in its original release we added the exit music from "Seven Wonders Of the World" because we had the room on CD-2 and also this music is really a great orchestration. Of course we all being connected to Dave and his restoration, Dave decided to use, again, as we believed the "Search For Paradise" exit music for his video restoration of "Best Of Cinerama." So unfortunately Sepia got my earlier email about the exit track of Dave's video and they list his in their booklet accompanying the CD's. So what this all means is that the CD has "Seven Wonders" exit bonus music, but "the written order of appearance" booklet page list "Search." Also, since we had 4 versions of "Search For Paradise" theme and this is a music CD, I thought that five times was repetitious and a good option would be the ext music from "Seven Wonders." Oh well, with all the effort we put into the CD package and for this to happen, to say the least is embarrassing. I hope everyone cuts me some slack!

Regards,
Robert Weisgerber, USA

Who said "Best of Cinerama" never had 'exit music' in its original release? All Cinerama films had exit music. John had two original BOC soundtracks which both had "Search For Paradise" exit music. This is only logical - as the music for the Overture and Act 2 'play in' are both SFP. Dave's Digital version of the film is sound accurate as far as I can see. Looking forward to the CD anyway - the 7W music is great too.
