This 70mm print of The Brutalist is being shipped on 6 reels. There are no trailers attached to this print.
DTS AUDIO OPTIONS - Inserted into the side flanges of reel 1 are a primary and a backup complete set of DTS audio media in transport caddies. Please use the appropriate media for your model of DTS player. Enclosed with each DT5 set is:• USB flash drive - Applicable ONLY to XD20 and XD10 player models.
• DVD-ROM single disc - The entire feature's audio is on this one disc and may be used with ANY model of DTS player provided it has a "DVD" type of drive installed.
• CD set of 3 discs — Please note if you are running a "DTS-6" model 2-drive player, or if you are running a "DTS-60" or "DTS-6AD" model player and only 2 drives are functional, your show will run fine by utilizing ONLY the "A" and "B" discs. (The "C" disc is included in the event an XD20 or XD10 model player refuses to load from CD without loading the "C" drive first.)
IMAGE SPECS - The Brutalist is a 1.66 aspect ratio film. It is "full height" per SMPTE RP91 with black pillarbox bars on the left and right of the image to create the 1.66 ratio within the 2.2 ratio of 70mm film. Please note that the changeover cues are inside the image area (not in the black pillarbox). If your venue has moveable masking, please mask to this 1.66 projected image. Also if possible, please file a 1.66 aspect ratio aperture plate(s) to eliminate any apparent keystoning of the image.
RUNNING TIME — The Brutalist feature is presented in two acts with an intermission: Act I = 100 minutes (reels 1, 2, 3) Act II = 100 minutes (reels 4, 5, 6) INTERMISSION = 15 minutes (starts at the beginning of reel 4)
IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING THE INTERMISSION — The Brutalist contains a mandatory 15 minute "on screen" rolling intermission. Note that there is a 15 minute countdown timer that begins at the start of reel 4 and has a static image which is critical to the plot of the movie. Do NOT close your curtains over this image if your auditorium is equipped with them. Similarly, do not switch the sound processor over to a different audio input. The intermission DOES have audio on it which starts approximately one minute into the on screen countdown. The only thing that should be changed during the intermission is raising and lowering the auditorium lighting.
REEL-TO-REEL / CHANGEOVER THEATERS — The Brutalist must be run continuously without physically stopping for intermission.
PLATTER / REEL TOWER THEATERS — The Brutalist should be split between two platter decks or two tower reels. Act I (reels 1-3) should be on one and Act II (reels 4-6) should be on the other. (Please note the beginning of reels 1 and 4 have extended threading leader for use with platters.) The very end of Act I ends with a title card "INTERMISSION", followed by a fade-up of the image displayed during the intermission's on screen countdown clock. For this reason it is important that as soon as Act I finishes, IMMEDIATELY re-thread Act II and resume the show. Do not delay! | More in 70mm reading:

THREADING AND OPERATION — Universal & Focus Features requires proper archival film handling practices from your venue when handling and projecting this print. Please make sure you are threading on the first possible section of "Christmas" leader on the roll and then using your projector motor to "run down" to your starting frame on the SMPTE lab countdown leader. (The "red" side of the leader represents the soundtrack edge and the "green" side represents the picture edge. The "Christmas" leader has clearly visible framelines for ease of threading and is spliced in-frame.) Never, ever physically handle the actual SMPTE countdown leader to prevent dirt migration and unnecessary end-of-reel film wear.
PRINT ASSEMBLY - Platter and tower theaters leave Head 1, Tail 3, Head 4 and Tail 6 leaders IN-TACT when assembling this print. It is understood that the other leaders must be removed for assembly. When doing so, ensure that the leaders are NOT permitted to touch the floor during either build-up or breakdown. It is imperative that these leaders not become dirty, which would negatively impact the next venue running changeovers. Also please leave the TAILS of 1, 2, 4 and Son the shipping reels during storage, as there is no reason to even unwind them. When assembling, under no circumstances leave more than one ID frame on the leader. Similarly, at the end of your engagement PEEL your splicing tape off during breakdown (do NOT "cut a frame") and re-attach the leaders with a proper 2-sided splice.
PRINT RETURN - Please don't forget to include ALL of the DTS media from BOTH sets and ensure they are packed the same way you received them when you return the print. Also please be sure you have securely taped down the leaders with new tape of at least 8 inches in length. Finally, be sure to replace the outer protective foam wrap on the reels when packing the film.
